Children's Dentistry Wayzata MNInstilling Good Habits During Childhood

We encourage children to keep their teeth healthy with proper daily cleaning and food choices that are nutritious to prevent cavities and help them keep their natural teeth for a lifetime.

It's important for our young patients and their parents to understand that children's teeth are very susceptible to cavities during their childhood for many reasons. Eating produces acid in the mouth, and children tend to eat frequently throughout the day. This increases exposure to that acid, which can start the decay process. More often than not, kids don't brush properly. If teeth already have plaque build-up in certain areas, frequent exposure to more acid will both produce more cavities and increase the rate that each cavity develops.

In addition to daily brushing and flossing and consuming less cavity-causing food and drink, we recommend that your children and teens have one application of a dental sealant to their back teeth. It is quick, easy, and painless but greatly helps in the reduction of cavity development.
